The vicious cycle of lying

It is more obvious than ever: there seems to exist a benefit to lying in politics. Looking at the current midterm rallies of US president Donald Trump, it looks like there is an actual strategy of lying as a means to more votes and more voter turnout. Filterblasen und «Fake News» oder alternative Fakten sind in aller Munde.

Die Mischung dieser Effekte und deren Konsequenzen können heute fast täglich in den Medien verfolgt werden. Sie führt wie von selbst in eine Polarisierung in Politik und Gesellschaft, welche möglicherweise in Konflikte beliebigen Ausmasses münden kann.

Je nach Interessenslage der Urheberschaft kann die Entwicklung unterschiedlich dargestellt oder manipuliert werden.

Im Bestreben, eine weitere Betrachtungsweise einem breiteren Publikum zugänglich zu machen, werden wir im Folgenden die Situation mithilfe der Methoden des Systemdenkens und der Systemdynamik zerlegen. So haben wir eine neue Chance, mögliche Gegenmassnahmen zu entdecken.

I discovered the documentary «Century Of The Self» a few years ago. It is scary, fascinating, and thought-provoking. And above all, it solved a lot of my big questions about life all at once. I come back to it over and over since.

The documentary describes the origins of today’s consumerist, «bigger, stronger, faster», growth-only, hypocritically democratic western world.

Many friends of mine become fathers these days. I am one with two daughters. They are 3 years and 7 months old. My memories of the time before I was a father are still fresh. Yet I already start to notice consequences of the things I chose to do at the time. Apart from caring for my transforming and loved wife, I read books!
