I created a new tiny website with the hope to extend human habitability on earth a tiny bit more. Use it in your social networks to encourage friends to at least compensate their flight carbon footprint.
Hier findest Du die deutsche Version dieses Beitrags.
For many years, I was puzzled by many friends› and people’s inconsistency between their words (chanting for mother earth nature, sharing heartbreaking stories about victims of natural desasters online, talking about all sorts of measures «others» or «the politicians» should take) and their actions (flying around the world for leisure, or even organizing seminars halfway around the globe to multiply the madness).
Obviously, the only real solution is to not fly in the first place. But if you fly, it is better if you compensate the resulting carbon emissions with a trustworthy organization.
So I thought it would be nice to have some way to create a simple, shareable internet link (URL) that makes it really easy to purchase your carbon compensation.
This is a very simple implementation of myClimate’s public facing APIs as documented here.
The new website at https://flug.schucan.com should be pretty much self-explanatory. But here are some tricks anyway.
First, there is a very simple syntax to create links directly and on the fly:
https://flug.schucan.com/FROM/TO/PAX
Where:
- FROM: IATA Code of the origin of the flight
- TO: IATA Code of the flight destination
- PAX: number of passengers (1-15, defaults to 1 if omitted)
A few examples:
- https://flug.schucan.com/sfo/zrh/2: A couple from San Francisco visits their friends in Zurich.
- https://flug.schucan.com/bsl/fra: One person from Basel flies to Frankfurt for a meeting.
Now it is your turn:
- Please use the site in your social network, and
help reduce our overall carbon footprint! - Please let me know if you would like to contribute translations (it is in English and German for now) or other support to the site!
- Please share your public feedback in the comments below!
